Jack and the B-17

I realize I am a few weeks behind in posting and I do have lots of new pictures to post, but I wanted to post this topic separate from all the Thanksgiving photos. A couple of weeks ago, a restored B-17 came to town and Jack got his first look at one. We got there only a few minutes before they were closing the tour so we only got a quick look. We will go for a longer tour of one someday when Jack is old enough to enjoy airplanes.

The men who were running the tour didn't really believe I would want to take a baby inside since it is a narrow climb to get in and through, and there are plenty of places to bump your head. Once I explained that it was important to me because Jack's Graddy flew in one during WWII, they helped me by holding Jack and handing him up to me after each climb and narrow walkway. The hardest part was getting through the bomb bay walkway. It's so narrow and I'm suprised men didn't accidentally fall off the walkway/out of the plane when the bomb bay doors were open during missions. There is no way I could have gotten through there when I was pregnant with Jack!

How could Graddy have ever fit in there? I wish I could have put Jack in the ball turret for a size reference. Let's just say it is smaller than his stroller.

It was really, dark, narrow and too crowded for good photos, but here's the best shot of Jack in the B-17. The silver round thing in the background is the ball turret from the inside of the plane.

Ball Turret from above. Now I understand why Dad (Graddy) always listened for the landing gear to go down whenever we were in an airplane.

Looks like a fun day. The things you'll do with a baby sometimes seem crazy, but they are people too.

Jennie, it's so cool that you took Jack to see the B-17. He looks completely comfortable in the environment, and quite curious about the plane. I hope to see many more adventures of Jack in the future. Merry Christmas to all at the Harris home.
